Our customer engagement process
Our streamlined process ensures seamless collaboration, transparent communication and exceptional results for your product development projects. Here's how we work with you, step by step:
To help protect and safeguard your project’s ideas, we start with signing a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). We either use IMT's NDA template (download here) or your company's NDA template. After finalizing the NDA, we begin first discussions to define your project’s vision, scope, and specific requirements.
During the initial consultation, we work with you to understand your project goals and company environment. This step helps us to decide how IMT's skills and expertise match with your needs. This way, we can ensure the right approach your engineering challenge.
In this phase we clarify the scope of the project and discuss the requirements for the new product or technical solution together. This is done from the perspective of the end-user and other involved stakeholders. In case the project scope and future product requirements are not clear yet, we can offer a one-day requirements workshop with our experts.
If the requirements and required technical solution are not clear at this stage, we suggest conducting a short concept phase. Typically, the concept phase includes methodical requirement gathering, establishing a technical concept and sometimes feasibility studies.
By investing reasonable amounts into the concept phase the project development plan can be established with higher accuracy and development efforts and costs can be estimated with high certainty. Deliverables of the concept phase offer could be requirements specification, technical concept, acceptance criteria, feasibility report, manufacturing costs estimation, sourcing proposal and offer for the full development and underlying project plan.
In case the project scope, product requirements and technical concepts are available, our team prepares a full development proposal. We craft a detailed roadmap for the project that outlines phased execution strategies. This roadmap includes design methods, development timelines, resource allocation, and milestone definitions. We customize all these elements to align with your project goals, providing a solid, accurate estimate for the development budget.
After the offer presentation we review and align with you the project budget, payment schedules, and deliverables for each phase. By ensuring transparency and mutual understanding, we set a strong foundation for smooth project execution.
To maintain the highest quality standards, we develop a quality assurance plan to outline the roles and responsibilities between IMT and the customer organization during project execution. At this stage it is decided if the project is executed according to IMT or the customer's quality management system (QMS). The project team holds a project kickoff meeting to align on goals, timelines, and deliverables.

To help our customers to tackle their innovation challenges, IMT offers an exclusive one-day requirements workshop.
We designed our requirements workshop to build a shared understanding of your project. This includes defining the project goals, drafting future product requirements, exploring the required technologies as well as planning the project approach and organization. During the workshop, IMT experts provide useful and actionable insights for your project.
The investment for this comprehensive exercise is only CHF 6,000 (excluding additional expenses, where applicable). We can hold this workshop at IMT’s premises in Switzerland, online, or at your preferred location.
